Sherlock fandom still going strong. In 1911.
If your surname is Holmes, you are duty-bound to do this. Sherrinfords, Sigers, Violets and Enolas are also acceptable.
These guys parents are AWESOME.
Sherlock is older than Mycroft here. Awww.
really wow.
Now that more people than ever are talking about it, some hints and tips for the Elementary tag:
If you are concern-trolling about Joan Watson having lost her medical license: STOP. If Watson here was being played by a mildly attractive probably-white actor, you would be eating up the ‘one tragic mistake leads brilliant but haunted ex-surgeon on an angsty struggle for redemption/the truth about That Fateful Day’ backstory with a spoon. P.S. it’s pretty obviously a plot hook that will become relevant as the story unfolds. Take your sexist double-standard and shove it.
If you are concern-trolling about Joan Watson not having an army background: STOP. Not being ex-military does not make her weak; characteristics such as loyalty, steadfastness, being a good shot, etc., are not exclusive to people with military backgrounds; traditionally ‘masculine’ rubrics are not the be-all and end-all of strength. Take your disingenuous fauxminism and shove it.
It is not ‘concern-trolling’ to be upset about Joan not having a military background or losing her license. It is also not a sexist double standard; I have no problems with taking these items away from Watson’s character, because you’re right and he can be these things without these specific histories. However, by making him a woman, and then taking them away because he is now a woman, is fucking annoying. We as an audience will never know the exact process of this, but ALL I am seeing is “Well, we made him a woman to mix things up / have romance / less homo for US audiences, so now that means we have to take away the military background too. Oh, and we also need to make her a glorified babysitter for Sherlock in the form of a ‘sober companion’, so let’s take her career away too.”
I really have no problem with the casting, (aside from their lack of chemistry I saw in the trailer). I love Lucy Liu, and I think she’d have made an awesome Sherlock -or- Joan. I love the idea of changing the gender. What I don’t love is that they changed the gender and then took out the traditional masculine things that they decided that she couldn’t have because she was a woman now.
But really, I know people are throwing opinions all over the place at Elementary and well, there really isn’t much to go on except the trailer at the moment. I’m excited about the casting but I personally didn’t see much chemistry until the scene with the phone and Joan’s all “You need to tell me the plan you big looping idiot” but that’s just me and that’s just the pilot.

Who was the real Moriarty (Part 2)
Who was the real Sherlock Holmes?
I really recommend this for those interested! These are all podcasts (about 30 mins). The two hosts of the show introduce you to which real life persons most likely inspired Sir Doyle when giving birth to his characters. Enjoy!

“I had hardly expected so dolichocephalic a skull or such well-marked supra-orbital development” is like the worst pick-up line.
